What’s on your bookshelf?

You need resources that speak to your story.

I only suggest materials and websites I trust and love. Decide if you trust and love them, too.
Your feedback is always welcome after you’ve thoroughly explored a resource.
”There are many resources, but there is only one Source.”—Unknown

Jon Acuff. This brand-spankin’ new read in April 2021 is solid!

We all have old soundtracks playing in our minds. This content encourages the reader to identify the scripts and flip them for a completely fresh perspective. The old, unkind soundtracks have stolen enough of your time, creativity, and productivity! Build a playlist for your mind and be your own DJ!

The Allender Center (Seattle, WA)

You need a place you can trust for solid, Christian, trauma-informed and story-related resources.

Freedom Movement (Karrie Garcia)

My personal, new favorite ministry. I’ve gotten to know the hearts behind FM and the quality of their content (Storyline, Freedom Academy, The Exchange study, and the Own The Light Tour), and I’m further down the road for all of it! Consider purchasing materials for you and those you know and love. Better yet, check out one of their scheduled events!

Bold Love

Dr. Dan B. Allender and Dr. Tremper Longman III. This read transformed my perspective on the love of God, especially as I embrace and write my stories. How can holy God extend so much love to me?

To Be Told

Dr. Dan B. Allender. If you’re thinking of writing your story, this resource is particularly helpful to the author writing from the scenes of life, from memory, even the difficult, life dominating memories. There is also a workbook (for To Be Told editions printed by WaterBrook Press).

The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma

Bessel Van Der Kolk, M. D., discusses the effects of trauma on the body and the brain. Reflecting current research in neuroscience, it’s comprehensive content in a readable form. This resource was important to my understanding of trauma and helped me step on the road to embracing my stories.

The Exchange.

Karrie Garcia (Freedom Movement) has created a fantastic study for those who want a deeper dive into their stories. Take the time to do this in a group with safe people, and you’ll likely find beautiful growth opportunities for you and the others you dive in with!

The Place We Find Ourselves

Adam Young Counseling offers fantastic information presented in relatable terms. Haven’t taken a listen from the beginning? Give it a try. This resource is helpful, educational, and the thing I talk about with my friends! Enough said? Maybe.
